Confronting Power: A confession modeled on the Apostle’s Creed

I believe in God,

Who, though Almighty, chooses grace.

Mirroring God, I reflect grace to all.

I believe in Jesus Christ, His only Son, our Lord,

who emptied himself of title and position,

demonstrating that true love serves others.

In like manner, I serve others to demonstrate love.

Jesus suffered injustice, was tortured, killed, and buried

on the third day he rose again from the dead for our sake;

I see injustice and choose to stand with the oppressed,

the suffering, and the discarded.

I believe in the Holy Spirit,

Who fills God’s people, giving us joy and hope.

May I be filled so that I can overflow in joy and hope with those who need them.

I believe in the church,

Who unite with other followers of Christ

Demonstrating grace, service, suffering, and presence.

Lord, look to those who have gone without food for days.

Lord, look to those who scramble for food among the rubbish dumps.

Lord, look to those who sell their bodies and dignity to put food on their table.

Lord, look to those who work under unfair labor laws to feed their families.

Dear Lord, look to your people who are hungry.

Won’t you be Jehovah Jireh to the hungry?
